Legislation to Evolve the Guarantor

ASA has drafted legislation (pdf, 106 KB) that would amend the Higher Education Act to make student support services an entitlement for all federal student loan borrowers. ASA shares NASLA’s vision for an evolved role for guarantors (pdf, 71 KB) as neutral, third-party providers of support for all borrowers throughout the life of the loan—regardless of the source of funding for the loan. A new borrower-centric guarantor will make it much easier for students and families to navigate the student loan process and make informed decisions from application through repayment.
